My Top Ten Christmas Movies

Originally uploaded by PaperNest at flickr.com

The Christmas season is probably my favorite time of year to curl up and watch movies, especially winter holiday movies.

I just stacked my Blockbuster queue with my all-time favorites. Here are my top ten Christmas flicks, in no particular order:

1. A Christmas Story- Who doesn't love Ralphie, Randy, Flick and the many funny and simple moments in this Christmas classic? The tongue stuck to the flagpole, the Chinese waiters singing "Deck the Halls ..." What a classic.

2. Home Alone- Yes, I am a Kevin McAlister fan. I know most lines from that movie. It's the most frequently watched Christmas film in this home.

3. The Homecoming: A Christmas Story- I LOVE Patricia Neal as Olivia Walton in this made-for-TV movie that preceded the popular TV series "The Waltons." Watch this movie, and you'll be exceptionally grateful for family and simple times. You'll also love the Baldwin sisters and will wish to take a sleigh ride with them.

4. A Christmas Carol (starring George C. Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge)- This Dickens classic is one of my favorite flicks about love and the true meaning of Christmas. The former General Patton utters a fairly decent "Bah! Humbug."

5. Miracle on 34th Street starring Maureen O'Hara- I can watch this favorite any time during the Christmas season, even though it's really special on Thanksgiving Day.

6. It's a Wonderful Life- Need I explain? I should watch that movie on this specific day of my life. It's sort of been an emotional one. I need to see Jimmy Stewart's smiling face.

7. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer- Nostalgia calls in this classic featuring the voice and music of Burl Ives. The Abominable Snowman still frightens me.

8. Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas- No one could voice the Grinch better than Boris Karloff, except for maybe James Earl Jones. "Cindy Lou Who, I am your father." Not funny?

9. A Charlie Brown Christmas- I absolutely love the music in this little movie. Snoopy, of course, is totally charming.

10. Christmas in South Park. Yes, I do like Mr. Hankey Poo, Eric Cartman, and Chef. Hidy Ho.

I hope you enjoy your own holiday viewing. Merry Movie Watching!
